lets make ornaments!

In November I signed the kids and I up for the Crafty Crow’s annual ornament swap. My friend Katie had done it the previous year, and it sounded like such fun. Plus the theme this year was Fairy Tales so how could we resist. Of course we went the route of gnomes + mushrooms (I am predictable like that). We had so much fun making these ornaments, and most of the things were stuff we had on hand. I did a little how-to below, but you could really vary the whole thing by using different colors and different little toys on the ornaments themselves. I think we are even going to pick up some more wooden bases to make some for our friends too.

1. Materials-Things you’ll need to make the ornaments are plain wood circles (you could also cut these bases if you have some thick fallen branches around), pipe cleaners (I bought these red and white ones but you could use two colors and twist them together yourself), some sort of fabrics to cover the wood base (I have a big green velvet ribbon, and red and white polka dot ribbon, but you could use felt) glue gun, and trinkets and toys for top (most of what we used are cake toppers)

2. Trace your wood circles onto the back side of the material you are covering the wood discs with. Cut them out and set aside.

3. Bend one pipe cleaner on each end so it forms the handle. Use the hot glue to glue this down to the wood base. Then cover both sides of the wood base (covering the ends of the handle too) with the circles of fabric that you cut out in step 2.

4. Now you can glue pipe cleaners around the entire edge of your bases, or use ribbon, etc. Then have fun arranging all your trinkets on top, and glue in place!
