On Saturday Jessee
(a true French macaron connoisseur) invited a bunch of us to her house to make macarons. She’s made them quite a few times
so she really knows her way around those little colorful cookies!
A French Macaron should not be confused with a macaroon (the yummy coconut cookies) French macarons are a sweet meringue-based confectionery made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food coloring. The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies. Its name is derived from the Italian word maccarone or maccherone.
We talked so much that in the end we only ended up making two batches, but that’s okay…it was lots of fun! We made a raspberry filled with lemon curd, and a pumpkin spice filled with buttercream chai. They were delicious, and I can’t wait to experiment with other flavor combinations.
