Working Wednesday – Working On The Blog

If you read my blog via blog reader you may not have noticed that I gave my website a much needed facelift this week. I’m not very savvy when it comes to coding and website mumbo jumbo, so I am feeling pretty accomplished!

I have been wanting to option to add widgets to my blog, and all it came down to was changing my blog’s theme and then customizing it. It is still a work in progress, but now you can search my blog, use tags (all the way at the bottom) to find entries. There is a little arrow button that follows you as you scroll down my blog, to easily take you back up to the top. There is a calendar so you can click on a specific date, and an archives! I’m pretty excited about it!

Please let me know if there is something you think my blog should have, or a widget you think I should know about. I’ll be sure and post if I add anything else to make navigating my blog a bit easier.

I miss the little folks staring at me from the left side. When I first saw you blog yesterday it seemed so ‘whitebread’ and similar to everyone else, I didnt realize it was you at first. I think you need to put your unique interesting personality back into it. Otherwise its nice.

it looks really fresh and lovely and easy to use! i love it!!

  4. I’d love to be able to ‘pin’, but I understand some people are not fans.

  5. Hi Tiffany!
You should be able to pin on my blog now! Ive added “pin it” buttons to the bottom of each post too! Some times a post goes lives and I dont get a chance to mark the photos as public on flickr, and then they show as un-pinable until I get them public, but I try and do it each day. Still trying to figure out a better solution for that. Thanks so much for the input!

  6. Thanks for the input Colleen! I promise it’s still a work in progress :) I was looking into adding more photos to the sides (similar to what I had before)

I think it looks very nice! I would maybe put your search bar up higher though, so it’s more obvious and easier for people to find. Same with your social media follow buttons. I’ve got a blog building series you might want to look at (just did a post about plugins), but I think you’ve done a great job and I love the new design!

  8. Thanks Erin for all the comments! I did try and put the social media buttons at the top, but there must be something wrong with the template as it then hides just the very top of each of them under the header image. I’ll have to look into that more! I’ll check out your post for sure!

  9. Love the upgrade, Heidi! I’m very impressed with your skills. I’ve been meaning to update my blog for years. What program are you using, is it wordpress?

  10. Thanks Jenny, the theme’s and theme editors definitely make it much easier. I can’t really mess around with the code—thats too confusing for me. I have wordpress installed on my website, because I asked the previous gal who made my website to do it that way, so I’d have an easy time updating each page. Then under the wordpress they have ways you can change your theme, and I just never really explored it. I was too afraid of messing something up haha.

Could you make a little “grab button/box” so I could add your button to my blog?
