The Farmer’s Wife 1930’s Sampler Quilt

I have been wanting to purchase The Farmer’s Wife Quilt book ever since I learned that it came with a CD for printing out foundation piecing templates. When the book arrived I went ahead and picked out 20 different blocks to print, and I have them set aside in my studio so whenever I have a little free time I can make one block. I plan to sew up more then 20, but I felt like if I had them ready to go it would make it easier when I had some free time to just start sewing. I am only up to four blocks so far, but I’m not in any hurry with this quilt. In addition to the 99 quilt block patterns the book has a real letter for each block. The letters were originally published in The Farmer’s Wife magazine, and are so very charming! One of my favorite letters talks about a weenie roast they decided to throw as a way to entertain themselves. I like to read each letter before I start the corresponding block, but I may end up reading all the letters in an evening instead. Once you read one, its hard not to start another.
