So I have been thinking a lot about silkscreening, I have some totes I want to print designs on for summer shows….I decided to make up a small screen using my gocco (the whole instant gratification gets me every time) I then cut off the plastic film, cover the cardboard with packing tape and use a small squeegee for the ink.
I sometimes think that maybe I am just not made to silkscreen. I am messy, I am impatient, and sometimes the little errors bother me too much. As you can tell from the photo, all the practice prints have flaws, some pretty big ones. I can’t even imagine trying to register and make several colors. Just thinking about it causes my head to explode. A good friend our ours actually teaches print making at a local university….I am sure he would be shamed to see my set up when I go to print (I hang my head in shame Brett!)
I’m not throwing the idea out the window, I still hope to make the totes. Its just the idea of making the screen that is holding me back. I feel like its such a win/lose situation, nothing is as dismaying as taking all the time to make a screen, and to have part of your image wash out during cleaning. Or maybe even worse to have the parts that are supposed to wash out, not. Oh screen printing, how you haunt me!

Its hard to stay sad though when your wearing a pair of new shoes that would make Minnie Mouse jealous! I found these babies for $3 in a closeout shop. Let’s here it for big feet!! Size ten!
I also wanted to share a recipe I read about in a kid’s magazine while waiting in the dentist office last week. You mix one 15 oz can of pure pumpkin with one box of chocolate cake mix. Do not add anything else in, just the pumkin. Once baked you can sprinkle with powered sugar, and there is just a hint of pumpkin. Ours came out like this and even my picky “I hate pumpkin” ten year old liked them.
I’ve had these before and they are awesome, if you don’t say they are made with pumpkin you would never know! One of my co-workers made them for all of us. The bonus is, for those who are “counting food points” they are only 1 point on Weight Watchers. Just beware, it’s really hard to only eat 1!!!!
Comment by Ronni 04.20.06 @ 7:55 pmI am in the big foot club, too. I’m 5’4″ and have size ten feet. Did the tatt on your foot hurt too much? I have my back pretty well tattooed, but I want one on my foot and don’t know anyone that can give me the lowdown on foot tatts.
Comment by persephone 04.20.06 @ 10:10 pmi have big feet too! hoorah. those shoes are great, and also, i like your screenprinting, but i guess i like a rougher look. either way, i think they’re magnificent!
Comment by Sarah 04.21.06 @ 7:57 amVery cute screenprint. Never thought of using the Gocco just for burning the image. Very interesting.
That recipe sounds great. Doesn’t get better than two ingredient cooking.
Comment by vanessa 04.21.06 @ 7:59 amYour flawed screenprints would still look awesome on a tote, I think the not-perfectness of them makes them perfect. I would totally use a bag with that screenprint on it. And the shoes are great, I too have big feet and don’t often find good second hand shoes, but those rock!
Comment by Robin Green Eye 04.21.06 @ 9:22 amI love your mistakes…really.
Thanks for the recipe. I can’t wait to try it.
Comment by wendy 04.21.06 @ 10:07 amI really want to try screenprinting but now I’m kind of scared me. Your prints came out pretty cool.
O and thanks for the recipe, it sounds really yummy.
