We came to NYC mostly to check out the private collections of Henry Darger before the exhibit ended. It was at the American Folk Museum which also houses The Henry Darger Study Center. It was really amazing to see some of his work up close and personal, and to check out the things he collected. If you haven’t seen the documentary In The Realms Of The Unreal yet I highly recommend it. It rained a little the afternoon we spent at the museum so it worked out perfectly to spend a few hours indoors wandering around.
Our hotel was pretty lovely as well. We stayed at the Hotel On Rivington in a king room with soaking tub & steam shower. The tub filled with water which poured from the ceiling, and the whole shower/tub area was closed off so you could turn on the steam and the room became a steam room. It was within walking distance to Babycakes, Moo shoes, Teany and a few other places we decided to stop into. We did pick up some cupcakes (at Babycakes) one evening, and they looked lovely, but sadly were super dry (perhaps because it was in the late evening?) Tom did pick up mini donuts (at Babycakes) another day in the morning and he said those were perfect, so perhaps earlier is key.
We ate at Teany for breakfast one day, super close to the hotel. We had everything bagels with vegan bacon/cheese which were very tasty and shared a blueberry scone. Great selection of teas, the waitress was super, and it is really bright and cheerful inside. It is a small place but there was only one other couple eating there at the time, so it wasn’t crowded.
We walked and rode the subway all over. Saw some great Christmas window displays that look like they have been up for the last 50 years :) We really need to get back to NYC for Christmas some time.

I LOVE the Hotel on Rivington–my good friend had her wedding there a few years ago! Looks like your trip was amazing, and I’m so jealous of everything you ate!
