So remember when I said I was going to stop buying bread, well I basically have! I think I have only purchased one loaf of bread in the past two months or so. The top photo is a glimpse of the batch of toasters I am working on for the May 1st update. The second photo was a loaf of bread I made to go with Brown Rice Lentil soup which I made the other day. It was a mix of brown rice, lentils, green + yellow split peas, veggie stock, crumbled fake meatballs, and the rigmarole of spices.
I wanted a quick bread that i had not made before to go with it, and started looking into soda breads (a bread that uses baking soda as the leavening agent). I used this recipe and it turned out as a perfect dense soup bread!
Last night I decided to get the famous No Knead bread started following the recipe here. While it was very easy to make, I think next time I would let my bread rise a little longer. Mine rose for about 16 hours (next time I would aim for the 24 or so) and then I let it rise for the next two hours but it didn’t seem to double in size. I still went head and baked it, and it smelled amazing…it just doesn’t have as many lovely bubbles inside as I would like, and kind of did a big crack open on the top while baking.
It still looks and tastes good, and I think I will use it to make something for dinner tonight. Just next time longer rising time for sure.

Do you have a bread maker? I love using the ‘dough’ setting, which kneads everything for you and lets it rise. Then you can still take it out and put in in the oven for pretty baking (or use a normal setting and cook it in the breadmaker)
And yes, I have a blog!

Lately it is mostly pictures from work, my (tattoo) ambigrams. I have not done much crafting since we moved a few months ago, but you can look through the categories at some past projects.
The bread looks amazing! I would love to learn how to make bread, the bread prices are on the rise around here.
