We watched this movie last night and I found it very charming. There is some predictability, but the fairy tale-ness, amazing wardrobe, so much eye candy in the background makes it entirely perfect. I can’t wait to watch it again just to pay small attention to everything in the background. Her room is amazing, her clothing wow (I want her shoes!), plus in a near end scene she is sitting on a set of stairs reading with decorations for Halloween all around…oh my so breath taking!

I also have been wanting to talk about a mini series called Tin Man. It is out on dvd and comes as two discs. I had rented it from Netflix and both Tom and I were excited (we loved the mini series The 10th Kingdom and this seemed similar) It also has Zooey Deschanel in it which is an added bonus, her and her cute scratchy voice! Anyhow, yes it is a bit cheesy at times, they call Oz the O-Z (say the letters out loud instead of simply Oz) But overall I enjoyed it very much (Tom said it was pretty bad and read instead while I watched it) I think it was a fun new take on The Wizard Of Oz.
Just thought I would let you know in case you had not seen either. Anyone have anything they would like to recommend?
Penelope is on my list of movies to watch and Juno too… I still haven’t seen that one.
Comment by Nicole 07.16.08 @ 12:52 pmI seriously received not one, not two, but THREE emails from folks asking if I had art-directed “Penelope”! ;) I also liked it, yes predictable, but beautiful to look at. And such a surprisingly good cast, too!
Comment by emily 07.16.08 @ 8:05 pmOoh, thank you for the recommendation – I love movies/films with lots of eye candy!
Comment by Summer 07.17.08 @ 1:38 amOh I love Christina Ricci (and adore the shoes on her, too) and James McAvoy too! I just saw his film Atonement, and was burst in tears after. I tend to get moved just after seeing the movie, not necessarily while it´s still on. Brokeback Mountain made me cry for half an hour, and The Fireflies´Grave (by Studio Ghibli, I´m sure you´ve seen it)woke me up in the middle of the night, just for a good cry…
I´m so glad Christina Ricci is doing stuff again, I haven´t seen anything from her for years.
I loved Tin Man when it appeared on the Sci Fi Channel last year and this year at con I got a ton of free mini comics of it at Mid-South Con from a woman who has worked with Joss Whedon.
I fully recommend watching a small anime series called The Twelve Kingdoms (10 dvds long). I was bit hesitant of it at first with the somewhat cruddy opening sequence to the series but the animation and story line are awesome!
