movies
I kept meaning to make a post about some movies (and one show) that we watched and then Christmas was here, and all my posts were holiday related, yadda yadda. I’ve got a free moment and wanted to talk about these things before I forget again…
From left to right…
Sound of My Voice- I heard an interview on NPR and was intrigued, and I really loved this movie. If you want a film that you are going to be thinking about days, weeks, and possibly months later, try this one. We actually saw this one a few months ago and I still will find myself wondering about it. I don’t want to give anything away but the movie is about a a boyfriend & girlfriend who decide to expose a cult leader named Maggie (she did the NPR interview) who says she is from the future. If you watch it I would love to know what you think.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World- Tom and I actually watched this movie on 12/21 because what else seems more appropriate when it’s the end of the world? We loved it! Steve Carell is lovely. I personally have a super huge place in my heart for movies where a “funny guy” play something a little less type-cast. Movies like Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, and Will Ferrel in Stranger Than Fiction.
and last but not least The Killing: Season One-We actually watched this first season of this show on Netflix instant. I highly recommend it, it was great (think Twin Peaks without David Lynch, no soap opera style drama, no bear claws, and expect to cry…and don’t get me wrong I’m a Twin Peaks fan for life!) We watched season one & two, and that’s all there is. But they do finish the series out right, you will indeed find out who killed Rosie Larsen. I wanted to keep watching, but I also didn’t want it to end..Sarah Linden is my favorite. Now I’d like the watch the Danish tv series Forbrydelsen which it was based on.
That’s about it movie and show wise…I did go and see Les Miserables with my sister, and the family and I saw The Hobbit and Wreck It Ralph in the theater, but I think that’s it for the past few months. I’d love to have some reccomendations too. We are eagerly awaiting season three of Boardwalk Empire. I’ll have some books I’ve read over the past couple months to share with you soon, and I’ll be back with some photos of the sewing goods i’ve been stitching soon.

The Killing was one of my favorite Netfilx finds. It feels so different from other shows. So happy to hear about season 2 since I out.

  2. Helen says:

Thanks for these suggestions, I haven’t seen any of these but I’d really like to see seeking a friend for the end of the world.
I recently got into Forbrydelsen, it is AMAZING, I’ve only seen the third series so I want to see the first two too but I can’t recommend it enough

Just watched the third and final series of The Killing (Danish version). Amazing. You should also look out for Borgen and The Bridge.

  4. Persephone says:

I might have to check out The Killing. Love me some Twin Peaks!

  5. Heidi Kenney says:

Persephone, ok just remember it isnt really like twin peaks haha, twin peaks is its own special something :) :) But I did love The Killing so much I bought season one for my sister so she could watch it and we could discuss it haha

  6. Heidi Kenney says:

cath w, oh that just makes me want to watch it even more! Is Borgen and The Bridge a book? I heard there was a book they were recommending to fans of the show.

  7. Heidi Kenney says:

Helen, your welcome!! I hope you like them….I think I need to find out how I can watch it asap!

  8. Heidi Kenney says:

Samantha, Wasn’t it so great? :)

  9. Jennifer says:

Just say “Anonymous” — think it came out in 2010 — it’s about the predominant theory on who really wrote Shakespeare’s works. We LOVED it, and my 14-year-old son asked if we could buy a copy for his birthday! On the Shakespeare theme, we recently saw “10 Things I Hate About You,” which is another modern re-telling of The Taming of the Shrew, with Heath Ledger (released a number of years ago) — also really enjoyed that one. A wacky Tom Hanks movie is “That Thing You Do,” which is a great period piece about a fictional overnight-sensation band of the 60s.

I did see seeking a friend and loved it. I liked that it had a non traditional yet fulfilling ending. It’s one I would buy. I will have to check out the others and let you know what I think. Thanks for sharing.

Ooh, don’t know if they are books but will have a search. Watching the final series of Damages which is also worth a look.

  12. Heidi Kenney says:

cath w, thanks I will look for that one!

  13. Heidi Kenney says:

jennifer, thanks so much for the movies….I have seen 10 things, but its been a while :)

  14. Heather says:

That’s how I am, I LOVE movies that feature a comedian in a not so comedic (or as comedic as usual) role. I love those two you mentioned (Eternal Sunshine and Stranger Than Fiction). Adam Sandler is another one. Spanglish, Funny People, Punch Drunk Love. And have you ever seen Reign Over Me? That one is amazing. And you will cry. So good.

I added The Killing to my queue on Netflix! I’m not sure when I’ll get to it though. I’ve never seen Twin Peaks (I know) but it’s in my queue too. Right now I’m watching Being Human (UK version).

  15. Heidi Kenney says:

Heather, yes adam sandler does a great job in those films too–just love that! I have not seen Reign Over Me, now im going to go look it up!! The Killing is really not like Twin Peaks, its just the same in that you are trying to find out who killed a teen girl ;) But they remind me of one another in small ways, but they are so very different haha. I havent seen Being Human, ill have to look into that too

  16. Heather says:

I highly recommend Reign Over Me! But seriously, be prepared to cry. It’s hard to watch, but so, so good. Being Human is about roommates that are a ghost, a vampire, and a werewolf. It sounds kind of crazy, but it’s actually pretty good!

  17. Heidi Kenney says:

Heather, of course Netflix doesn’t have it on instant…ill have to borrow from someone or the library :)

I know, I’ve been wanting to watch it again and checked there first. Boo to that! :(
