As I said this week for me is all about the handmade gifts. While I can’t reveal what I am making until after the holidays I thought I’d link some tutorials for what I think are some really beautiful gifts.
1. Candle tea cups: I’ve been meaning to make these for awhile. I always see very cute tea cups in the thrift shops and I think most people enjoy a good candle.
2.hand carved crochet hooks: I love the idea of carving some very special crochet hooks for the crafty person in your life. Even if some one doesn’t know how to crochet yet, a beautiful handmade hook and a book on crochet might be just the thing.
3.laptop bag: This laptop bag also makes a great purse.
4.Baby food spice jars: how about some spice jars for the cook in your life? You could also fill them with baking supplies like sprinkles, plastic toppers etc.
5.Shrinky Dink pendant: you could make a lot of really cute designs with shrink plastic, or turn them into a keychain instead. We made ornaments of the kid’s drawings one year, and magnets of katamari characters another.
6.freezer paper stenciled pillowcases: freezer paper stencils work on all kinds of things from t-shirts to totes.
7.Rubber origami ornament: another DIY i’ve been eager to try. You dip origami into the rubber to create a more permanent object. Looks like a great gift topper too.

Sunday Links – Paper Piecing Halloween Potholders

A few people commented that they would like the make the potholder from my pot pies post, so I thought I’d do a little round up of foundation piecing patterns for Halloween! While I couldn’t find the exact pattern I used (I made mine a few weeks ago) there are plenty of jack o’ lanterns to choose from. If you’ve never done foundation piecing here is a great starter with photos.
-simple pumpkin and witch
-more complex witch on broom
-jack o’lantern
-another jack o’lantren
-black cat
-candy corn
Then to turn it into a potholder I simply did the same thing as these hot pads.
