Chicago – Ebb and Flow

Chicago Friends please consider coming out to Great Lakes Tattoo to see my husband’s book release show. Tom will also be in town a few days tattooing if you’d like to set up an appointment.
Friday September 29th 7-10pm
Thomas Kenney, tattooer, painter and everyone’s friend will release his first book of paintings at Great State Gallery on September 29. His book is a collection of over 50 paintings juxtaposing darkness and light, themes of despair, mourning and sin contrasted with true lightheartedness. His book along with the original paintings from the book will be on display and for sale. Complimentary drinks from STOLEN Spirits , Virtue Cider and Revolution Brewing. This is not one to be missed!

Chicago 3

During our stay in Chicago Tom was going to be tattooing at Great Lakes Tattoo two of the days, which meant I’d have two days to do some exploring on my own. One morning I went to the MCA to see the Daniel Clowes exhibit, it was wonderful! I’ll say I glazed over quite a bit of modern art on my way up to the top floor, so I could spend a couple hours staring at his comic book panels. Oh and this is a helpful tidbit for the people who keep calling him Daniel Clothes haha, I heard a couple people say it during my trip. I have a funny habit of googling names I’m not sure how to pronounce before I am willing to say them out loud.
Oh and I was super excited to stumble across my kidrobot plush in the MCA gift shop.
We got vegan donuts & delicious coffee one morning at Fritz Pastry. The donuts are huge, so of course we had to take the rest to go, but I love how they put the donut hole back into the middle. I love just how many different ways there are to make a humble donut.
I promise my Chicago posts are almost over, it’s just such a great city with so much to see-so I hope you’re not bored of it yet.

Chicago 2

More snaps from our trip to Chicago last month…
We visited Oz Park (we had really great weather the entire trip), stopped at the Super Dawg Drive-In for some drinks and they had special commemorative cups! Then I bought little plush hotdogs (I already have the ceramic statue from a previous trip)
On one of our days there we stopped in a the Super H-Mart just outside of Chicago. There is a little shopping mall inside the store with a shop called Fancy Pencil Land. I got some really cute stationary & stickers, and these amazing South Korean boy band Exo-K socks. I was getting some terrible blisters from all the walking/the shoes I brought so these did the trick.
There was also a little bakery called Migahodo in the shops area that smelled so amazing. They make little walnut shaped cakes on the spot and you can watch them being made. Each cake is filled with red bean paste and a walnut, and are served hot.
